Maryen Cairns + Charles Gorrie - The Troubadour, London
The Troubadour, 265-267 Old Brompton Road , Earls Court, London
Returning to play in London after 28 years, here is singer songwriter Maryen Cairns taking to the stage one-woman-band style!
“Flitting between piano and acoustic guitar - and occasional percussion - Cairns confirms her musical ability, as well as her instrumental juggling skills, and when you factor in that she’s also singing along to everything as she goes, it’s no small feat. What this one woman set also shines a light on is the lyrical prowess to be found here, a mixture of what I guess are autobiographical tales and some stories being regaled, the likes of “Kids From The Burbs”, “The Smuggler’s Tale” and “Voices From Scotland” hit even harder than their studio counterparts” - Steven Reid, Sea of Tranquility
A Scottish born Australian now living in Guernsey, singer-songwriter Maryen Cairns pivots on a cajón between a guitar, piano & percussion, telling stories of smugglers, strong women and of hope for the future, with solo stripped back arrangements creating a primal and beautiful sonic backdrop. Maryen has been being produced and mentored by Rolling Stone's producer Chris Kimsey; released 7 critically-acclaimed solo albums; had a professional association with former Marillion lead singer Fish; toured 18,000 km through remote Australian communities with her family band; released her 1st Vinyl album “One Woman Band, Live at Echotown Studios, Vol 1” and on 25 April 2025 is releasing "One Woman Band, Live at Echotown Studios, Vol 2".
CHARLES GORRIE is a Glasgow based Poet, Singer/Songwriter & Martial Arts Guru with an interest in personal alchemy whether from west or east.
