Diving into the folk history of the island of Guernsey, where I’ve found myself living for the past 2 years, has been mind expanding for this Australian girl.
Reading about the brutal murders that occurred in The Haunted Lane: travellers’ bodies buried & thrown over the cliffs, young love thwarted by a jealous neighbour, bloodcurdling screams audible to the cliffside residents over many years, a young minister descending alone into the dark to stage a exorcism - successfully, though he refused to speak of it again - all of these tales drew me into finding out where The Haunted Lane was, only to discover I was walking it regularly!
After I realised where I was I was kinda spooked… and then as I walked, fast, this song came to me - a vision of me being haunted by The Haunted Lane.
I recorded The Haunted Lane at home in Guernsey during lockdown, added bass & percussion remotely, then my mentor & fabulous producer Chris Kimsey mixed and mastered at his home in London.
Produced, Mixed, Mastered - Chris Kimsey, Bass & Electric Guitar - Jennifer Maidman, Percussion - James Larter, Vocals, Keys, Electronic Bass, Strings, Percussive Effects - Maryen Cairns
